Minnesota Set to Impose Tougher Penalties for DWIs

On August 1, 2015, new DWI laws take effect in Minnesota. The most significant change is that the threshold for a gross misdemeanor DWI will be lowered from .20 to .16.

While .16 is still twice the legal limit, the Star Tribune reports this could result in nearly 3000 more gross misdemeanor DWIs per year. Gross misdemeanors carry a maximum penalty of a year in jail and a $3000 fine. The full article can be accessed here.
