2019 Social Security Changes

The Social Security Administration has announced the 2019 cost of living adjustment. Social Security and Supplemental Security Income recipients will receive a 2.8% cost of living adjustment for 2019.

The Social Security Administration has also raised the maximum taxable earnings from $128,400 to $132,900. The Supplemental Security income benefits increased from $750 per month for an individual to $771 per month. For a couple, the Supplemental Security Income increased from $1,125 per month to $1,157 per month.

The social security disability threshold for substantial gainful work activity was raised from $1,180 per month in 2018 to $1,220 per month in 2019. The average monthly social security benefits payable in January 2019 for all retired workers is $1,461. The average disability payment is $1,234 per month. Each individual’s benefit entitlement will be based upon their social security earnings record.
